Champlain PTO Meeting
PTO Work Session
June 18th, 2008
Host:  Jessica Nordhaus

I.  Introductions and Agenda Review
Jessica welcomed everyone and asked for folks to introduce themselves.

Question about PTO’s influence in school issues – e.g. Communication between parents and teachers with emails, websites, etc.

We talked about having the teachers become more involved in the PTO.

We have volunteered to host the first Council Meeting at our school.

II.  Meetings Structure for 2008-2009
a.  Working Meetings Change it to second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm.
We would like to accommodate the teachers’ schedule a few times in the year to facilitate their involvement.
Kristen acknowledged that the babysitting and dinner helped families attend.
b.Parent Enrichment meetings. This would be scheduled in addition to working meetings.  Ideas are:  Parent education, Dr. Frankowski, internet safety talk from the Police Department.

III. Input
1.Switching to Ambiant Photography?

2.Communication between parents and teachers with technology (i.e. emails).  The benefits of a website to help parents become aware of what is going on in the classroom.  Dawn talked about how the district is trying to get the high school to set up websites.  Perhaps a sub-committee could be set up to help facilitate progress in this area.  We need someone to spearhead this issue to form a committee.

Budget Overview
Karen presented her version of the budget overview.  Karen will create budget for next year and will present this in our August meeting.  We would like this to be posted so parents can see where the money is spent.

Fundraising
Jenny talked about ideas for 2008-2009 – Mums, Vt. Coffee Club (on-going fundraiser).  We missed the I-89 bake sale!! Oh no – any ideas?  Church Street bake sale, Flat Bread, Spring Fun Run 2 km/5km, Tag Sale, Used Book Sale.

Box Tops – perhaps have kids collect 100 box tops for the 100 days of school.  Remember – keep 10 to a sheet for counting purposes.

We’ll meet on August 20th.

Deadlines:  by next Wednesday, June 25th we need to have our dates to the district.
