CURRICULUM NIGHT, GRADES 1-5: Tuesday, 9/29, 5:30-6:15 and 6:15-7 PM. This year, presentations will be offered twice so that parents with more than one child at Champlain can participate more fully in classroom presentations. Many thanks to our great teaching staff who are willing to accommodate families in this way. Please let your child's teacher know which session you will be attending. Child care will be available so that parents may fully participate in the presentations. Please rsvp to Barbara Leopold at 864-8477 if your children will be attending.
APPLEFEST VOLUNTEERS AND SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS NEEDED! We still need donations, large and small, for upcoming APPLEFEST, Friday, October 2, 5:30-7 PM. Please simply send a note to Roxanne Scully (scullys@mac.com) providing the title/description of your donation, your name and phone. No item to small (or big) and can include stuff (eg. An ipod, a wheelbarrow, etc.) or services (eg. Wash car, sailing lesson, etc.). Don't be shy about asking local businesses you frequent to donate items as well. This is the biggest PTO fundraiser of the year--in 2008 we raised over $5,000 to support student learning and activities!!
We are also looking for volunteers to help coordinate dinner (turkey dogs, tofu dogs, veggie sticks, cole slaw and of course apples) or an outdoor event or game. Look for sign up sheets at school or contact Vivian Esparza (vivian@bugleg.com or 862-7041) if you are able to help.
WALK TO SCHOOL DAY: Wednesday, October 7. Music, art and prizes for all walkers and bikers! Volunteers are still needed to help organize walking/biking groups in some neighborhoods. Police officers will also be provided to assist with the additional pedestrian traffic. Contact Leslyn Hall (leslyn.hall@gmail.com) if you can lead a walking school bus or help at school that day.
SCHOOLYARD HABITAT WORK-DAY: Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 pm. Please join us for a fun afternoon of fall projects around the schoolyard. We plan to put the sunflower garden to bed, spread mulch to protect the trees from winter injury, and remove invasive plants from the woods trail. Please bring tools if you have them: shovels, large and small pruners, hand saws, and work gloves. Fun for the whole family! Contact Gwendolyn Causer to volunteer,
or if you have ideas for future projects. 863-5646, causerg@burlingtontelecom.net .
