MATH NIGHT & POTLUCK DINNER: A big shout out to Melissa McConnell, Penny Stearns, Jessica Nordhaus, Jenny Breckenridge, Silvia Jope, Isha Mohamed, Patrick Halladay and all the class parents and teachers who made our first math night such a success. Over 300 people attended! The kids had a chance to explore different math concepts with games, parents had an opportunity to speak with our District math coordinator, and the food was pretty excellent, too! Special thanks also to the Champlain School Janitorial staff. Thanks, Fellas!
FOOD DRIVE: The need for food items at the Food Shelf is at an all time high. The 4/5 team at Champlain Elementary School is organizing a Food Drive to help meet this need. On Wednesday, November 18 we will have drop off boxes outside of Champlain Elementary School, and students will be going door-to-door in our neighborhoods to collect non-perishable food items for the Food Shelf. If you receive a flyer on your door on Monday 11/16, we will be collecting non-perishables in your area on Wednesday 11/18. Please leave your donated items on your doorstep by 9:00am.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS: Burlington Afterschool Winter Session enrollment is now open. Look for brochures coming home today (Tuesday) with the Blue Note or find it on line: http://bsdweb.bsdvt.org/BAS/Brochures_Web/ChamplainBrochure.pdf
Enrollment forms are due back this THURSDAY, November 19th. More information to come in another PTO e-mail.
BOOK FAIR: "Destination Imagination” Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Champlain Elementary December 1st through December 4th. Profits from the book fair are used to supplement classroom and library materials in our school. The times are 8:15 to 3:30 Tuesday and Thursday, and 8:15 to 5:30 on Wednesday. And need I remind you that books make great holiday gifts? You could also give a lasting gift to the school in the form of a book. If you are interested in volunteering contact Mary Riley at 658-2923 or rileyburl@burlingtontelecom.net"
COFFEE CLUB UPDATE: The coffee is in the HOUSE! If you ordered coffee come on down to the teacher’s lounge to pick up your beans. We ordered 30 bags of coffee and raised $186 for the PTO! Want to get involved in this exclusive club? All you have to do is order coffee from our caffeinated maven of coffee, Wendy Watson Agnew. The next round of order forms will go out with the Blue Note the first week of December. Orders are due back Monday December 14th, and the coffee will be ready to pick up Friday December 18th – just in time for those lovely December days of coffee drinking by the wood fire. If you have any questions or want to order directly via e-mail contact Wendy at theagnews@myfairpoint.net
AFTERSCHOOL ARTS: Winter Session enrollment due THURSDAY, 11/19!!!
After long discussions with parents, teachers, administrators, other local PTO drama coordinators and Burlington Afterschool, the PTO has decided that it cannot stage a large-scale musical production this spring for 3rd-5th graders. Instead, we are very happy to announce that Burlington Afterschool at Champlain will offer several Theater Arts and Performance courses in their Winter Session. The program includes Re-told Fairy Tales, Stage Club for budding playwrights in grades 3-5 culminating in the production of One Act plays, Musical Adventures with a performance element for K-2, Multi-Cultural Music & Movement, and French Puppetry. Most of these offerings will available to up to 25 children each.
We hope you will all take a look at the Afterschool brochure for the Winter session and explore some of these great options for continuing a tradition of theater arts at Champlain.
Afterschool sign-ups are coming home this week and will need to be returned by Thursday, November 19th. Be on the lookout and get your registrations back as soon as possible!!
