PTO MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY: Brought to you by the letter "C", the December 9th PTO Meeting is all about Communication, Collaboration, and building Community. After a break from business as usual in November, we're taking a break from business as usual in December. All Champlain community members are welcome to join in continuing the work started at last June's PTO Retreat. The question of the night (of the year, really) is: How can the PTO engage in our students' education in a meaningful way? We value YOUR ideas and input. The meeting is this Wednesday from 6-8 pm in the Champlain Library. Childcare (with pizza dinner for children) is provided. RSVP for childcare to Barbara Leopold (864-8477).
If you are unable to join the discussion this Wednesday, but are interested in fostering partnerships that benefit our children and want to join a newly emerging "3 C's" committee, please contact Jessica Nordhaus (jnordhaus@msn.com) or Jenny Breckenridge (jennybreck@burlingtontelecom.net).
THE T-SHIRTS ARE HERE! Need a T-shirt? Wow, have we got one for you. The Champlain Elementary T-shirts are printed and ready to go. Sweatshirts, too! Your mother would totally love one these beautiful blue sweatshirts. Champlain parent Ali Marchildon designed these 100% cotton shirts and sweatshirts for us. The order form will be coming home with your children on Tuesday. T-shirts are $10 each (2 for $15 or 3 for $25). Sweatshirts are $20. Order deadline is December 18th and pick up is December 22nd in the Learning Center.
BURLINGTON SCHOOL BUDGET MEETING: So, what do YOU think about what's in our school budget for next year? Get information on the 2010-2011 budget and give your input BEFORE the budget is finalized. Attend a
budget forum – It’s much more interesting than it sounds. The first one is Tuesday, December 15th, 7pm at Burlington High School.
ACTION PLAN: Champlain Elementary has an "Action Plan" that has stemmed out of School Improvement work under the No Child Left Behind Act. Parents are welcome to review and provide comments on our Action
Plan. You can find the "Champlain Action Plan" on our school website at http://champlain.bsdvt.org/parentResource.php. You can email your comments or questions directly to Leslie at lcolomb@bsdvt.org.
COFFEE CLUB -- IT'S TIME TO ORDER FOR DECEMBER: Coffee makes a great gift for teachers, friends & neighbors! And for those of you who need to support your caffeine habit – you can keep ordering each month!
Order forms will go out with the Blue Note this Tuesday. Orders are due next Tuesday, December 15th and the coffee will be ready to pick up in the teachers room Friday, December 18th at the beginning of school day. If you have any questions or want to order directly via e-mail contact Wendy Watson Agnew: theagnews@myfairpoint.net
SCHOOL ENTRY POSTER: We are working on a “Welcome to Champlain” poster for the front lobby window. Ideas for the poster so far include: “Welcome to Champlain Elementary School - where students, teachers and families make the difference!” OR: “Welcome to Champlain Elementary School - every child, every teacher, every family, every day!”
We would love to get more input and ideas on this from the CES community. Please contact Silvia Jope, Title 1-Parent Involvement Coordinator, at 316-0440 or sjopedal@bsdvt.org. Thank you!
CUB SCOUT MEETING THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, 5:15 to 7 pm. Pizza provided! Scouts will work on the next merit badge, leadership and initiative training, and each boy will learn about archery. This includes designing and building a real bow and arrow out of clothing hanger, rubber band, and wood! This will lead to an outdoor archery
trip this spring. For more info, contact Russell Beste: 309-1269 or rbeste@yahoo.com.
