3 C's UPDATE
THANK YOU! Almost 100 parents participated in the parent engagement meetings and many of those who couldn't emailed their input. What amazing participation!! A few parents volunteered to work with a few teachers to help organize all of the information gathered in preparation for the faculty meeting next week. This workgroup will meet on Wednesday morning from 8:10-10 am. The information will be discussed at the joint parent/faculty meeting on Tuesday, February 16th from 2:45-3:45. We are working on ways to make the information accessible to everyone, but in the meantime if you have questions, please contact Leslie Colomb (lcolomb@bsdvt.org) or Jessica Nordhaus (jnordhaus@msn.com).
A big thanks also to Leslie for organizing this process to collect parent's vision for communication and collaboration to support all kids at Champlain, to our facilitators Mary Jane Shelley and the Parent Involvement Resource Center's Mark Stein, and of course, to all of our teachers, for all of the work they do each day for our children!
ANOTHER IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY for parent involvement: We are currently looking for a parent to sit on the Discipline Committee chaired by Karen Prouty. As part of a district-wide discipline policy, BSD has committed to the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) approach. The team from Champlain will start a 3 year roll out this month and next with 2 trainings (a morning session at Champlain on Thursday 2/11 and a 3-day training at Lake Morey from 3/17-19). The parent member would need to be able to attend these trainings (or a good part of them) as well. The district can provide a stipend for transportation, food and lodging at Lake Morey. If you are interested, please contact Karen Prouty (kprouty@bsdvt.org) for more information. A big commitment, yes, but what a meaningful way to be involved in our school!
TOWN MEETING DAY is just 3 weeks away, and we'll be voting on the school budget, among other things. THE PTO URGES YOU TO VOTE! If you are going to be out of town on March 2nd, please vote early. Absentee ballot request forms and voter registration forms (as well as information about the 2010-11 budget) will be available at school on Thursday night at the Lunch For Dinner event...
PTO MEETING, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th:
This months meeting will take place directly after the 4/5 choral concert which runs 6:00 to 6:30 (All Champlain Families are invited to the Chorus). As always: Learning Center; child care (please rsvp to Barbara Leopold--especially important this week if you plan to attend right after the concert and your children will stay with you); pizza!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THIS WEEKS LUNCH FOR DINNER PROGRAM:
Hello Champlain families!
We are excited about the upcoming FREE Lunch for Dinner event this Thursday 2/11at 5:30 pm at Champlain (more info in the next Blue Note), and we are really hoping that you and your family can come! In order to run things smoothly we need volunteer help for setting up and cleaning up the gym.
If you can come from 4:30 5:00 for set up or stay after the dinner for clean up, please let me know, either by email sjopedal@bsdvt.org or by phone 316-0440. Also, we are looking for small (up to 12 " wide), clean and either new or gently usedbaskets that we can use as Red Hen bread baskets in the center of the tables. If you have some you'd like to donate or lend, please drop them off on the bottom shelf of the "Parent Resource" bookcase in the lobby by Wednesday.
Thank you so much!
Silvia Jope-Dalinghaus
PTO NOTECARD FUNDRAISER:
(Check your todays Blue Note for all of the details.)
For a second year, the Champlain PTO is raising money for our school and for statewide school food programs by selling note cards painted by Vermont artists that depict inspiring Vermont agricultural scenes.
Please help support this project by buying or selling cards, which feature work by Champlain parent Katharine Montstream, and by Woody Jackson, Mary Azarian, Bonnie Acker and others. These cards are beautiful, and make great gifts. You can see them in the display case in the Learning Center, or by visiting http://www.vtfeed.org/assets/files/Arts_Cards_Web.pdf
All the artwork and printing has been donated, so $4 of each $10 pack sold will support PTO enrichment activities such as field trips, guest speakers, assemblies, music enrichment, and more. The remaining $6 benefits the Burlington School Food Project and Vermont FEED (Food Education Every Day). Both groups work to bring local food to school food programs and promote food, farm and nutrition education.
Orders are due Friday, March 12. Return order forms and checks to the office, or your child's teacher. Note card orders will be available for pick-up the week of March 22.
Thank you for your continued support of our school!
