WHY LOVE MATTERS: THE YOUNG CHILDS BRAIN & HOW WE RESPOND
Please join us for this free parenting workshop with Gail Rafferty and Daniela Caserta of the Howard Center. This workshop will focus on how a young childs brain forms, and the importance of early contact and affection in the first few years of life. Discussion will also include concrete activities/ideas to strengthen childrens social and emotional growth through a neuro-developmental approach. Parents will learn concepts and strategies that can help children with bonding, impulse control and self-regulation, while also learning about some fun and interesting ways the young childs brain develops.
Wednesday, March 17 from 6-7:30 at Champlain School. Please pre-register for child care by March 16 by calling 864-8477.
2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR AT CHAMPLAIN:
Changes are afoot at our school. As many of you already know, four teachers are retiring after this year: Mr. Sclafani, Ms. Felber, Ms. Storer and Ms. Tanguay. Thanks to all four teachers for their many years of hard work! But the show must go on and the search process begins for their replacements. There will be an opportunity for interested parents to offer their input about the desired qualities and characteristics of new teachers. There may also be some internal switching of positions at Champlain so the school may not be hiring externally for all four teachers.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: End of the school day today is the deadline to register for kindergarten and for magnet schools. Information and forms are available on the BSD website.
SOUTHERN CONNECTOR/CHAMPLAIN PARKWAY:
Citizens Committee on Champlain Parkway meets tonight at the Soda Plant, 6:30-8, focusing on how the plans will effect the business community in the South End. Last night's meeting collected residents' ideas and input. An area of specific concern is making sure we have safe and convenient walk/bikeways for our children to cross the Parkway and get to school. If you are interested in more information about the Committee, please contact Jason Van Driesche at jvandriesche@gmail.com.
