Dear Champlain Families,
You have probably heard - there are changes afoot next year at Champlain. With four teachers retiring and high student enrollment, there are going to be some significant staffing changes, with both internal movement and external hiring. We have attached a document that Leslie has compiled to outline the anticipated numbers of students and teachers per grade as well as students per class for the school year 2010-11. As Leslie has informed us in the Blue Note, the district has decided to enroll only 2 kindergarten classes. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades will have 3 sections each. It is uncertain how the 4th and 5th grade classes will be structured; high enrollment indicates that we will have 4 sections of 26 students each, but they might not all be 4/5 combined groupings. While this uncertainty might lead to some anxiety for children and their parents about what next year holds, we can also remember that change--hard as it is--is as an opportunity for growth.
Superintendent Jeanne Collins has started the district-wide hiring process for new teachers and would like to hear from parents about what qualities and characteristics they would like to see in their children's classroom teachers. The following is a one-question internet "survey monkey": http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PDG72PX
This is your opportunity to have an impact on hiring. Please take a moment to click on the link and respond to this survey. If you would prefer to give your input verbally or on paper, Leslie would be happy to pass your thoughts on to central office. If you would like help completing the survey, please contact Silvia Jope at sjopedal@bsdvt.org or Leslie at lcolomb@bsdvt.org. Please respond by March 30th.
Thank you for your input and involvement.
Sincerely,
Jessica Nordhaus & Jenny Breckenridge
